Smoky’s story and facts about trees

One day In May, in Lincoln national forest, New Mexico. It was especially hot, which meant that the forest had become very dry. No one knows for certain how the fire started. Maybe someone, dropped a lighted match, or left their campfire burning. But soon those little flames caught fire to the dry shrubbery. And the fire was soon engulfed in flames. One man called the ranger station after he figured out where the fire was. And firefighters soon rushed to the scene. But before they could put out the fire, they had to get to it. Cutting through the woods, they eventually got to the fire, using they’re bulldozers to dig firelines. But the fire soon overtook the lines and spread to the other side of the forest. The animals ran from the fire, but in the confusion, many ran right into it. Animals who hid were soon engulfed and even those who ran didn’t all make it out. Soldiers from Fort Bliss, Texas were even dropped off to stop the fire. In one section of the fire, twenty-four firefighters were trapped by the flames. As the wind increased those firefighters were forced to lay on a rockslide face down with wet handkerchiefs on their face. The firefighters all survived the ordeal. And found one lone bear cub who had been burned. They took care of him and nursed him back to health. He was then named Smokey and made the icon of preventing forest fires.

A poster I made to raise awareness about protecting trees.

It is important to learn about trees because we benefit off them so much, and our lives depend on them. So if we keep destroying them, it will not be good for us. We all are responsible for keeping trees safe, because they help all of us, and that means we should help them too. I am going to help by asking to take trees from a spot that is going to be destroyed soon and replanting them near me. You can encourage others to keep trees safe by talking about trees to them and creating posters to raise awareness.
